Internet-drafts that are easiest to attract venture capital funds

Fashion at Internet startups are very changeable. More recently, venture capitalists called e-commerce one of the most promising areas for investment.

Today they prefer not to get involved with this segment: the competition is too high, and the risk of loss due to problems of delivery or customs are difficult to evaluate. Some of the ideas are not new, for the enjoyment of other required too high initial investment.

InVenture Partners managing partner, Member of the Board of Directors of rostelekom Anton Inshutin spoke about what will be popular with venture capital financiers in the coming year, and what kind of topics worth forgetting.

Educational projects, online training-"Yes"

Education market in Russia, public and commercial, InVenture Partners, estimates that approximately $60 billion per year. Of them on paid education services accounting for about $15 billion.

Of this amount, 15-20% can go online for ten years. That is why Inshutin calls startups in this area some of the most promising and InVenture Partners closely watching any projects in this field. It can also be, and startups in corporate learning.

Many companies train their employees, but doing it the usual way without the use of Internet technologies. Another promising direction is preparing for tests and exams, particularly SESSIONAL LECTURER. For example, in the United States there is a huge global system Kaplan, which prepares all possible examinations. On the domestic market until there is no noticeable player.

Search and identification photos and videos-"no"

Seemingly popular trend-recognition services images, photos and videos are actually closed for startups. The main problem is the need for huge investments in infrastructure.

To display the video frames and pixels and match them with the base, need huge processing power. Small companies, according to Inshutina, they will not be able to find funding for a global project, and those $5-10 million, which can be found from investors to develop this truly promising business, are unlikely to help.

"Maybe it would take half a billion to invest before the service will operate normally," said Inshutin. So search engine technology to generate all sorts of recognition of images is only available to corporations like Google. Of course, you can come up with niche products, such as search for products online-stores. But here there is a problem with monetization.

Many computer users today use software directly installed on the device, but, for example, series laptops from Google Chrome have virtually no preset programs and have limited built-in memory.

In its work the Chrome uses the software installed and running on the remote servers or in the cloud, with which the device is connected through the Internet. The computer is used only as a monitor. Such technology is incredibly promising, believes Inshutin.

In particular, they help to make mobile devices more light and thin, they will not need a large amount of memory, high-speed processors and powerful batteries. However, such a device needs to provide high-quality connection to connect to the cloud server.

More and more software vendors offer cloud solutions for both commercial and personal use. And here the emergence of interesting ideas and startups.

The Game-"No"

Another business, in which Anton Inshutin don't go startaperam, it advises to games. According to him, InVenture Partners usually does not consider such projects as an object for investment. Firstly, because the market is overheated enough, too many strong players and competitors.

And secondly, the preferences of the audience change quickly and for them to be able to stay in the market, you need a continuous flow of creativity, which provide a very difficult.

An example is the experience of Zynga, the world's largest companies producing games for social networks Facebook, whose shares have fallen in value more than 80% over the past six months, owing to a lack of new hits and falling interest users to existing games.

More recently, venture capital funds related to e-commerce with verve, but today they are investing in such projects with great care. Too much influence on their business have problems of delivery and customs. Inshutin says that his fund denies money authors almost all projects online stores.

High competition in this segment, and the output of the major retail chains in online only convince him of the correctness of those decisions. A promising direction remains on creating ecommerce solutions in the field of fulfillment (storage optimization, generation and delivery of goods) and CRM-systems.

Food delivery-"no" and "Yes"

To deliver services, such as mass consumer pizza or sushi, too, is not particularly promising occupation for the entrepreneur who wants to get the investment money.

The main problem here is too high cost of marketing. In Moscow, according to Inshutina, promotion in search engines by using high-frequency queries (often entered by the user in a search engine, such as "pizza delivery") can go to $5 for an upgrade.

"To recapture the costs will have to be at least three to four times to deliver pizza to one person," said Inshutin. You can, of course, attract customers via low-frequency queries or deal with mestechkovym business, but usually such projects of venture capitalists is not very interested.

All this does not apply to delivery to the offices of the companies. According to Inshutina, margin reaches 80%. But the problem is that this market is extremely small.
